Freud’s Coat & other stories.

Professor Paul Coldwell.

Coldwell is an artist who has frequently used museums and collections as starting points for new work. Throughout 2016 he researched in the Freud museums in London and Vienna to produce a body of new artworks that were exhibited in both venues. The migration of Sigmund Freud from Vienna to London in 1938 became the central focus of this project and work included a life size print, made with the assistance of the National Gallery in London, using x-rays of the coat Freud wore for his migration. The illustrated talk will provide a background to this work and how through working within a collection, new readings can be articulated.
